When he was 14 years old, Demrick ran away from his home in Spokane, WA to pursue rap in New York City. He recounts his journey across the country in "Back in the Daze," the lead single off his upcoming album Collect Call.
Produced by GMB, “Back in the Daze” begins with a recording of Demrick's conversation with his mother about they day he left -- the first time they have ever discussed that day in depth, Demrick says. “I felt people needed to hear this not only for the value of the story, but for the significance it has in who I became,” he explains. “It truly was the turning point of my life going down the right path rather than becoming a follower of others.”
Collect Call out June 24. Check out the tracklist here.
Quotable Lyrics
I'm at the payphone calling moms collect, I hope she accept
I got myself into this mess, now I'm full of regret
I ain't even tell her that I left, I know she stressed and upset
And getting me this ticket back home will put her further in debt
