Arizona emcee Sincerely Collins dropped an unexpected but fascinating collab recently with "Limelight," featuring Troy Ave, Reo Cragun, and Roscoe Dash. It's now his album release week, and before The Legend of the Phoenix drops on Friday, he's decided to share "Better Different Intro."
The song is an immersive blend of jazzy instrumentation, electronic flourishes, and most importantly, gripping storytelling from Collins. He starts the song singing as if it were a trap anthem, though with the 808s swapped for heavy washes of sax and piano, the combination is surprisingly powerful. The real movie begins when Collins starts rapping, as he takes listeners through the loss of his mother as well as all of the struggles and insecurities that have made him the artist he is now. He keeps his intensity level throughout his entire verse.
"Better Different Intro" slows into a lush instrumental interlude about halfway through the song, after which Collins lays down the meaning behind The Legend of the Phoenix with a looser verse that sums up all of the track's inspiration. The listener will feel familiarized with Collins after one listen, though remember, it's just an "Intro." The Legend of the Phoenix drops on Friday. Pre-order the album here.
Quotable Lyrics
Sippin', sippin' and drankin', just drankin' and sippin'
Like what do I gotta do to get motherfuckers to listen
As if that wasn't enough, I just got the news
I was 'bout to be a daddy, I don't know what to do
