Singer-songwriter/electronic wizard James Blake premiered a new song, "Timeless," on his 1-800-Dinosaur show on BBC Radio 1 yesterday. It's his first new track since February's "Modern Soul," and with the premiere of "Timeless," Blake used the on-air opportunity to reveal that he has finished a new album. It's titled Radio Silence, and Blake revealed that the album, which will be his first since 2013's Overgrown, will include 18 tracks, one of which is apparently 24 minutes long.
There's a bit more of an electronic pulse on "Timeless" than on most of Overgrown, but the new track is more soul-bearing material from the profoundly talented vocalist who was once classed as a dubstep producer. There's a hazy static that persists through the record, even when it begins to take more of a club focus toward the end. Combining sounds both modern and old, "Timeless" seems to be a fitting title.
Last year, Blake revealed that Kanye West would be featured on his upcoming album. Regardless, Radio Silence should be one of the year's most anticipated releases.
