Two of the most exciting names in the New York underground hail from Buffalo, a town that's received little exposure when it comes to hip-hop, but one that inspires some gripping street stories, as evidenced by the two Griselda Records signees. They've both done well to align themselves with Statik Selektah, who, after contributing to Gunn's new FLYGOD album, has now provided the dazzling instrumental to Conway's new single, "Birdy."
The flavor is old-school but far from being played out. In fact, when it comes to new-age street rap, wordplay and storytelling are often sacrificed in the name of all-out aggression. "Birdy" is a track that retains the cinematic quality that unites so many New York boom-bap classics. Thankfully, Statik has said the track is "just an appetizer of what's next." Stay tuned.
