As is the case with many of the best Drake beats, "Summer Sixteen" has inspired freestyles and remixes galore. The dark, simmering instrumental (both of them, really) requires smooth raps that also have some bite to them, and the bars from Fly America's Mark Battles do just that.
We had Mark come through the studio in November, so the quality of his bars here are really no surprise. He has some fun with his "Summer Sixteen" freestyle, flipping the hook to say, "lookin' for some twiiiins," but he also gets serious, touching on the death of his brother and his lack of respect for commercial emcees. It's likely not the last "Summer Sixteen" freestyle you'll here, but it's gonna be hard to beat.
Quotable Lyrics
So never glorify material
I remember nights when I was livin' off of cereal
I understand your pain, don't be ashamed, yo, I'm hearin' you
Made it out of Hades, good gracious, it's a miracle
