Last night, singer/Love & Hip Hop star K. Michelle shared a remix to Yo Gotti's hit single "Down in the DM." Little did we know that she would be teaming up with the CMG boss the following day -- for Gotti's new track "My City," which will appear on his upcoming album, The Art of Hustle, out February 19.
Both stars hail from Memphis, and they come together for a powerful and painful tribute to their hometown. It's certainly the most personal record we've heard off The Art of Hustle thus far, as the beat is comprised of nothing but some loose guitar strumming. Over the near-empty backdrop, both the powerful vocals of Michelle and the raspy raps of Gotti sound especially raw.
Gotti begins by reinterpreting the opening verse of Jay Z's "Heart in the City." He proceeds to paint Memphis as a war zone -- one that, despite all its dangers, has taught Gotti "The Art of Hustle."
Quotable Lyrics
The young n*ggas like ISIS
Killin' like they got a license
Life used to be precious, now it's worthless
N*ggas goin' on missions ain't even worth it
