Young Thug went ahead and dropped his tape yesterday, though the day before, he changed its title from Slime Season 3 to I'm Up. Fans may have been disappointed at the brevity of I'm Up, but otherwise, it's more innovative material from the man who's emerged at one of rap's most consistent acts. Most of the tape has a light, breezy feel, thanks in large part to the sublime ambient beats provided by Wheezy. The one exception: the Mike Will-produced "Special," which looks to be a straight up monster in the club.
Mike Will continues with the dark, pummeling bass heard on Future's "Al Sharpton," creating a menacing backdrop that becomes extra chilling when the sharp keys come in. The production prompts an extra cocky attitude from Thugger, and the loose flow that proceeds is nothing if not "special."
He then clears the way for two worthy features: Solo Lucci, who got a nice look on Chris Brown's Royalty, and Offset, who's been ruthless since he got out of the joint (that abortion line...). It's good to see two of the three Migos on I'm Up, though it'll be a damn shame if that Migos Thuggin never materializes.
Quotable Lyrics
I feel special, I feel special
Look at my wrist, fingers, ears, look at my neck glow
I feel special, I feel special
Check out my bitch, check out my peers, keep 'em extra
