It’s funny how well Fort Minor has aged. While Linkin Park remains tucked away in the embarrassing childhood memories of many listeners, those same former fans count Fort Minor, a side project of Linkin Park rapper/producer/keyboardist Mike Shinoda, as a respected hip hop release.
Now, we’ve got a crazy new remix by Fort Minor. He flips the final track from Aesop Rock & Homebody Sandman’s collaborative project Lice. Not coincidentally, the original version (produced by Charles Hamilton) used a sliced up version of the Linkin Park song “In The End” as the backbone of the beat.
Fort Minor’s new version is just as heavy as the original, if not more so. Shinoda uses a sparse boom-bap foundation and adds in some industrial noise samples and distorted hound snarls to match up with name of the song. One of the rappers even thinks the remix is better than the original, with Homeboy Sandman saying "suffice to say, [he] laced that shit."
Quotable Lyrics
I seldom like what they been hyping up
so people wanna fight they tell me "lighten up"
what? I'm just tryna enlighten em
beyond yo, I just didn't think it was slammin'
my t-shirt isn't pink, it's salmon
