Last night, the Chicago Bulls played the Oklahoma City Thunder at home. It was Rajon Rondo Bobblehead giveaway night, something that the Bulls’ marketing department probably planned well before the season started. Unfortunately, Rajon Rondo hasn’t played since 2016 due to disagreements with the head coach and front office, and didn’t play a single minute last night.
A look at the Chicago Bulls social media profiles turns up no mention of something that would normally get a lot of promotion, but with thousands of bobbleheads already manufactured, the team had little choice but to give them away. Rondo’s only on-court appearance was during warm ups, even with Jimmy Butler exiting the game early due to an illness.
Rondo is in the first year of a two-year, $28 million contract. It is unclear what the Bulls plan to do with their point guard, but they certainly aren’t playing him. To be fair, the bobblehead doesn’t look anything like Rondo.
