Escape From New York

Listen to Hudson Mohawke's instrumental tribute to John Carpenter "Escape From New York".

Hudson Mohawke made the surprising but ultimately good choice of leaving most of his trap influence behind on his latest album, Lantern. The producer found his greatest success yet in his pairing with Lunice as TNGHT, but with his latest solo offering, he carved out a sound all his own as a legion of beatmakers copped the duo's style.

As a result he worked with R&B stars like Miguel, and turned in Just Blaze-esque loop based records, as well as lots of bright synth-led tracks. His latest one-off is titled "Escape From New York," and fallows the tangent established with the LP, and actually riffs on John Carpenter's theme for his film of the same name. We're hoping to hear more from Hudson on Kanye West's upcoming album SWISH, whenever that may arrive.
