Pusha T's latest project Darkest Before Dawn comes 13 years after the release of Lord Willin', Clipse's debut album. Produced entirely by The Neptunes, Lord Willin' provided an opportunity for Pharrell to perfect his "skeleton beat" sound. "Grindin,'" the album's most enduring track, represents the best example of this production style with the possible exception of "Drop It Like It's Hot." Sometimes, less is more.
Also of note: see Malice rocking the Cincinnati Royals jersey and Pusha rocking the Virginia Squires jersey in the video. The early '00s were the peak of jerseys in hip hop fashion. (See also: "Tip Drill.")
Quotable Lyrics
The jewels is flirting, be damned if I'm hurting
Legend in two games like I'm Pee Wee Kirkland
Platinum on the block with consistent hits
While Pharrell keep talking this music shit
