Shawn Harris has been leaning into a more R&B-influenced sound on his last few records, and his latest track "Dance," is no exception. The record begins with a driving drum beat that accents some cloudy synths, while Harris pushes his melodies forward, following the lead of the rhythm before pulling the percussion entirely on the hook, as a Kanye-esque auto-tuned distortion enters as a backing vocal.
Just when you felt the song had taken all of its twists and turns, the instrumental flips in the final third, with Shawn's baritone delivery taking center stage while a heavily-delayed guitar responds to his croons. Listen to his last record "Dear Damisha" here.
Quotable Lyrics:
Baby I can't dance, but these diamonds can
Grew up in the screwface city
So just understand
If I'm mean-mugging
Girl, it's all a nigga know
But I'll smile just to show off all this gold
