We got snippets of 7 new songs from PartyNextDoor last night as he was the special guest on episode 7 of OVO Sound Radio. "Codeine Bumpin'" was an immediate favorite, though "Just a Rider" is a track that has more crossover appeal and has the potential to be a big hit for Party. As with most of his material, it's still quite experimental, and PND uses a few different effects on his vocals and layers different lines on top of each other as he goes.
The song finds Party asking an unnamed woman if she's really his ride or die chick. The lyrics seem to blur together, with a few quotables sprinkled throughout, but the main appeal of the track is the energy -- an alluring mix of confidence and depression. The minimal, icy production comes from Cardo and Yung Exclusive -- the same pair that produced Jay Rock and Black Hippy's "Vice City."
Note that the mixing is iffy in parts, but this version is good enough to hold us over until the CDQ arrives.
