Today's TBT comes from a few legends who were donning the "Grillz" back then and still are today. "Grillz" was featured on Nelly's 2005 compilation album Sweatsuit. The track came out over 10 years ago, and, even back then, it was a return to form for Nelly, showcasing his high-energy, club-shaking bars that ranked him among the Southern elite after just 2 albums (Country Grammar and Nellyville). The St. Louie vet is still at it, having just dropped a video to his latest single, "The Fix," but "Grillz" signals a bygone era in the South where Jermaine Dupri was dominating the charts and the clubs.
Also featured on the track is H-Town OG Paul Wall, who plans to release his 8th studio album, Slab God, tomorrow. Wall was a perfect selection for the track, as he's always been a steady purveyor of music that combines the luxurious with the ratchet and the club with the hood.
The song also features Ali of the St. Lunatics and Gipp from Goodie Mob.
Can y'all believe this was 10 years ago?!
