Houston OG Z-Ro has decided to pay tribute to the late, great DJ Screw with a new track, "Do It for Screw," featuring Mike D. Both Z-Ro and Mike D were members of Screw's Screwed Up Click, along with several other H-Town vets, including Big Moe, Fat Pat, and Lil' Keke. Screw's sound as well as the rappers he helped promote provided one of the most vibrant scenes in hip-hop history, and his influence can be heard all over the map today.
Over a slowed down, hypnotic beat that could've come from Screw himself, Z-Ro sing raps in his croaky, soulful Houston drawl about why he's still in the game and the deep, storied history he's already been a part of. It's good to hear Mike D back on a track, too, and his rapping here makes us wanna go dig up some of his older records.
Check out the visual montage Ro has created to go with the new song here. R.I.P. Screw.
Quotable Lyrics
Robert Earl Davis Jr. I sure miss ya
I know these pussy n*ggas want Z-Ro to go with ya
It's all good, bow my head and say a prayer
As long as you in heaven, I got representation up there
