Earlier this month, Yasiin Bey made headlines for challenging any rapper to a battle rap, which he has since elaborated on and “backed down” from (kinda) after Lupe & King Los came to the forefront on social media. Since then, he’s released a track called “Basquiet Ghostwriter” a couple weeks ago and now tonight he’s back under his old moniker Mos Def with another one called “Sensei On The Block.”
Collaborating with producer Ski Beatz, Mos delivers a thought-provoking record that finds him showcasing his insane lyricism and slick wordplay. Old fans of Mos Def will definitely appreciate this one. Hopefully there’s more on the way.
Take a close listen. (Track available on iTunes)
Quotable Lyrics:
Cool frames don’t qualify sunblock
The coolest shades aint never made the sun stop
Some hot, some not
Some never chase the sun spot black like gorgeous
