When The Last Time

Clipse's "Lord Willin" came out 13 years ago today, so we throw it back to "When The Last Time."

13 years ago today, brothers Gene and Terrence Thornton released their debut album under the name Clipse. Lord Willin' was the first of two albums they'd release that were entirely produced by The Neptunes (they brought in some other names for 2009's When The Casket Drops), and although Hell Hath No Fury is more commonly cited as the "classic," its predecessor is no small fry.

Pharrell and Chad Hugo were at the peak of their game in 2002, and the two singles from Lord Willin', "Grindin'" and "When The Last Time," are lasting testaments to an era when they ruled the radio. Pusha T and Malice were just starting to hint at the dense, vivid lyrical styles they'd later perfect, making this cut deeper than your average club banger.

Quotable Lyrics

I ain't for squishing, that's a problem to the wheel well
Trust I know them 20's real well
Now we coasting, me, two chicks, and toasting
I turn up the volume, watch the bass get them open
