There are a lot of exciting new voices coming out of Chicago right now, but Kweku Collins is looking to separate himself from the crowd. His latest record is self-produced, featuring some lush strings paired with a loose drum arrangement, as clap snares and high hats roll in and out unexpectedly. Kweku's vocals are similarly spontaneous, as he jumps from breathless double time to soulful, multi-tracked melodies. It all blends together into one big life-affirming collage by the track's end.
"Kings" comes off Kweku's upcoming EP, Say It Here, While It's Safe, which is coming July 21st.
Quotable Lyrics:
My father told me he's proud of me
And I believe him
'Cause I'm becoming someone I'm proud to be
You best believe it, I do
