Larry Anthony English Jr, an artist from New Castle, DE, known in the hip­hop community as “Yell Ell” has a vast musical background and an insatiable hunger for success. Born on June 2, 1993 in Newark, Delaware, Ell grew up inspired by his father’s love of funk/pop music. His father, Larry English Sr was originally a popular local DJ in the city of Wilmington, DE in which he hosted basement parties in his own home. As young Ell listened to the sounds of Earth, Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson and Prince, he developed a deep love of soul music, which resonated in his learning the saxophone. By the age of 9, he had completely grasped the ability to play the instrument, which lead to him being revered as a young talented musician among different churches and small jazz bands. Even with his accomplishment on the saxophone, he had a fondness for the art of hip­hop, which soon developed into an infallible passion. Growing up, Ell spent time with many older relatives in New Castle and Wilmington where he was introduced to the lyrical styling of various renowned hip hop artist such as Snoop Dogg, Eazy E, Tupac and Notorious Big. While playing in the streets, he also heard a mixed variation of gangsta, glamor, and lyrical rap from the likes of Jay­Z, 50 Cent and Lil Wayne. As an adolescent, Ell began to write poetry in his memoirs to cope with depressive situations in his life. By the time he entered college, he grew the confidence to step out of his comfort zone and begin recording his own hip­hop tracks and performing locally. This led to him collaborating with Gerrin Velazquez, also known as Gizzy Giz, to develop the “Loose Cannon Lifestyle” (LCL) brand. Today, Yell Ell is growing into an artist whose rap style combines the lyricism of yesterday’s talent and innovation for rap’s future. His music presents an innovative sound that gives the listener a closer look into the human condition, which has the potential of influencing change in the future direction of hip­hop.
