Vic Spencer and Tree are two of Chicago's most underrated talents, both interesting and slept on because they're out of step with current trends within the city's music scene. Thus, it'll only makes sense for the two rappers to team up, combining their strengths to break into the conversation.
Tree is behind the boards on this one, and has foregone his sample-based soul trap sound for an icier instrumental that's reminiscent of Pharrell at his wonkiest and most minimal. The two have a natural chemistry, the eccentricities in their respective voices further reveal themselves as they play off of one another. To top it off, Tree kills the hook with his bluesy swagger. According to Vic, this record was recorded a good three years ago in Tree's living room.
The duo's collaborative EP, VicTree, is out June 30th.
Quotable Lyrics:
Crumblin' herb, call me big green thumbs
Got an eighth in the tongue of my SB skunks
I'm the sixth man, hot doobies and wristbands
We cop from the tree spot where they shootin' like Pistons
