If Biggie Smalls were still with us, today he would have been 43 years old. The influence of the rapper is still seen throughout rap to this day, and it's hard to imagine just what he could have accomplished if he hadn't met his senseless death back in 1997. Today, rather than revisiting something from the Brooklyn emcee's studied catlog, we've been treated to something almost new-- an alternate version of the classic Ready To Die tragedy, "Me & My Bitch".
Ego Trip reports that the song was delivered to DJ Premier in 1994 to be played on his 107.5 WBLS late night radio show. The remixed (or what could possibly be the original) version is a lot breezier than its paranoid counterpart, replacing the tense instrumental with a lighter, guitar-led sample. It's a considerably different vibe, but the climax hits just as hard. What do you think of this mix?
Quotable Lyrics:
And if I deceive, she won't take it lightly
She'll invite me, politely, to fight G
And then we lie together, cry together
I swear to God I hope we fuckin' die together
