The pummelling sub-bass and fluttering hi-hats of Atlanta trap have become commonplace in hip-hop and electronic music nationwide, so it's become increasingly rare to hear something new being done with the sound. John Lee's new record, "Locked Up" takes a few trendy sounds, but stretches them to their limits, letting the bass line slide rather than bash you over the head, creating a drunken melting machine of rhythms and skittering piano samples. Lee's interpolation of an early 00s Akon is surprisingly perfect fit for the devilish mood.
"Locked Up has placed Lee among this week's final four Heatseekers. If you like to have your song or video featured on the site, you can submit content to us here.
Quotable Lyrics:
Mama say in God we trust
But I can feel the devil in my blood
Lookin' at the devil in my cup
Blowin' out some devil from my lungs
