Smoko Ono is a Chicago producer you're probably not too familiar with yet, although he once produced a dope collabo between two Chi-town staples Tris J and Sir Michael Rocks, which we featured, "Good Shit Talkin," and even if you didn't hear that, it's likely you heard his production on Vic Mensa's "Feel That." Apart from that, he's really been more behind-the-scenes in Chicago, touring as part of Vic Mensa's band and producing for rappers in the area. He's prepping his first full-length project, and for the first leak, he keeps everything Chicago with appearances from Rockie Fresh, Saba and Jarred AG (the last of whom is Smoko's brother). While those are strong features, Smoko Ono's production is really what stands out the most: a fusion of jazz and hip-hop to create something extra groovy. That was his intention too, as he told Noisey, "I wanted this track to incorporate an element of Chicago sound featuring a live jazz style fused with hip-hop and juke music."
Slackin N Mackin Vol. 1 is on the way. Let us know if you want to hear more from the producer.
Quotable Lyrics
Now if I say I got it understand I will deliver
I told my bitch to quit her job, to model in the winter
Now she always got a shoot, she a true fuckin' hitta
I swear niggas ain't gotta settle when they know their worth
She thinkin' money bags like fuck a purse
I fuck her good but then a nigga gotta go to work
