Jazz Cartier is a member of the Toronto collective Get Home Safe, which also counts Derek Wise as a member. Today, he's shared a dope, two-part song that features a sample of Toro Y Moi's "Rose Quartz." Entitled "Rose Quartz/Like, Crazy," Cartier's track is a nearly six-minute-long epic.
Joining Kevin Gates' "Arms Of A Stranger" as one of the few hip-hop tracks that reference films commonly called "chick flicks," Cartier's track includes dialog taken from the 2011 film "Like Crazy" (which is admittedly a little more artsy than Gates' "The Notebook" reference). Although built around two outside influences, "Rose Quartz/Like, Crazy" introduces Cartier as a singular, unique artist who's carving out a nice lane for himself.
Quotable Lyrics
You ever seen chandeliers on a jet?
A cigarette and coffee while I'm reading the gazette
Order another another crate, would you want any baguettes?
And I heard you like Prince, well I got him on cassette
My bowtie stay suited for this
Doin' my gangster lean while you listen to Clipse
We can zone out, watch a lunar eclipse
And just... just...
