Yesterday, Funk Volume's Jarren Benton announced via a video (below) that this October will officially be dubbed #BlackOctober, a campaign that involves him dropping a new track every week. The Kato-produced "Alladat," the first in the series, is the first new music we've gotten from Benton since March's "Gimme The Loot," so needless to say, we're pretty excited.
Over a jerky, piano-led composition, Benton relates stories from his youth ("started drinkin' young 'cause those Koreans never carded us") and name-drops Run The Jewels. All in all, it's a triumphant return, and one that has us excited for the remainder of #BlackOctober.
Quotable Lyrics:
I'm just a dreamer asking God to shine a little light
These niggas soft and they'd probably die in a pillow fight
I'm smokin' hashish out of a silver pipe
I told that bitch to run the jewels -- word to Killer Mike
