In the ever-evolving struggle to be the number one music streaming service, Spotify and Apple are the heavyweights, with other like SoundCloud and TIDAL far behind. When TIDAL first launched, its biggest selling point was a high fidelity premium option that offered better quality streaming than any other services. While that differentiation hasn’t translated to success for the Jay Z-owned service, Spotify is coming at its neck anyway.
Some Spotify users have been offered an option to upgrade to a new pricing tier called ‘Spotify Hi-Fi’, which it calls “the ultimate music experience” and offers “lossless CD quality audio.” While users have been excited by the new offering, it doesn’t appear to be functional yet. Some saw pricing at $20 and others at $15 a month, so Spotify is clearly still testing.
The Verge asked Spotify for comment but only got a generic response back. We’ll keep you posted if the new feature rolls out to new users. Has anyone seen this offer in their Spotify app?
