This is far from the first time Kanye West has experienced a fall from grace. Usually, his time outside of the public's favor is short-lived -- often overcome by his new music. Still, many of his fans and critics alike are wondering how he'll bounce back from his recent onstage tirades, as he spoke at length on his admiration for Donald Trump at a show in San Jose on Thursday (Nov. 17) and went on to deliver an impassioned rant, involving Beyonce and Jay Z, that would impel him to halt a concert in Sacramento last night (Nov. 19), after he had only performed a few songs. Perhaps an in-depth interview with a highbrow art and design publication will remind those of us who are fed up with his histrionics of the true scope of his intellect.
The new interview with Surface broaches Kanye on his ideas about art, architecture, design, fashion, and more. He speaks on his love for emojis and his aversion of words, and how life is similar to the "Legend of Zelda." The conversation grows tense after the interviewer begins a question by noting that Kanye likes to think of himself as an artist. "I didn't mention that I view myself that way," Kanye interjects. "I just I am. I never worded it like that. That's really offensive."
Kanye also speaks on how money has caused the uncool to reign over the cool:
"More people need to know that they’re not fucking cool. In today’s world, having money has allowed people who are extremely uncool to think that they’re cool and carry it like that. People who really are cool and people who really are artists and have ideas have to literally turn in their cool card to society just to make it past the age of 28."
