As promised, Kendrick Lamar comes through this morning with his new single "i." Starting out with a skit heralding Kendrick as a rapper-slash-writer, the record soon turns into an upbeat, somewhat jazzy affair, with definite radio potential. K. Dot, ever the chameleon, manipulates his voice for the single as he sing-raps on the hook "I love myself"-- which was rumored to be the song title at first. The uplifting record, produced by Rahki, will live on Kendrick's upcoming sophomore album, which we have very few details about, although apparently he has a bunch of songs recorded with Dr. Dre.
Does the new single live up to your expectations? Sound off in the comments.
Quotable Lyrics
They wanna say it's a war outside
And a bomb in the street
And a gun in the hood
And a mob of police
And a rock on the corner
And a line for a fiend
And a bottle full of lean
And a model on the scheme, yup
