While the rest of the industry has grown over the past century, turning from live instrumentals to samples to EDM, Lee Fields & The Expressions have managed to keep their grasp firm on the R&B music they came into this business to make. Just because they're old-fashioned doesn't meant they can't keep an open mind, however. Blessing hip-hop producer Marco Polo with the rights to remix the opening track from their 2014 album Emma Jean, the soul legends open their sound up to a more contemporary demographic.
If you're feeling this remix, you owe it yourself to hear the entire project. Emma Jean is in stores now.
Quotable Lyrics:
It's not the cash that got you feelin' spent
The day-to-day is like a whirlwind
Spending time trying to make some change
But everything seems to stay the same
You keep trying
But you just can't win
