There's a lot of turmoil going on in Ferguson, MO, as you are most likely aware. Following the shooting of an unarmed black male, 18-year old Michael Brown, by a white police officer (who has since been identified as Darren Wilson), citizens of Ferguson have been up in arms and protesting (sometimes peacefully, sometimes not so much) against what seems like an unwarranted killing. The whole situation has led to a short-lived curfew for Ferguson residents, a national discussion on police brutality as well as racism, not to mention the U.S. Justice Department opening up an investigation into the death. Both points of discussion are serious topics which obviously did not just start with the shooting of Mike Brown (or Trayvon Martin for that matter), as we see in today's #TBT track. Michael Jackson discussed issues of race and the police (as well as his own experiences with police brutality) on his 1996 record "They Don't Care About Us." The song was very controversial at the time of its release, which was reflected in its commercial performance.
