"Q-Tip warned us the industry's toxic."
Got some more authentic hip-hop for y'all this morning.
"Industry" is the first single from Cormega's upcoming studio album Mega Philosophy, produced by fellow New York City veteran Large Professor and mixed and mastered by Hazardis Soundz.
Despite a soulful instrumental and level-headed delivery from Mega, the record is a scathing critique of major labels and the music industry in general. Chalk it up to frustration if you will, but the truth in his words can't be denied. We have and continue to see countless examples of the pitfalls described here.
Let us know what you think, though.
The exceptionally wavy artwork, handled by Ibrahim Sincere, subverts Leonardo da Vinci's iconic 15th-century mural "The Last Supper," appropriating the likenesses of fallen rap heroes Guru, Eazy-E, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Big L, The Notorious B.I.G., 2pac, Big Pun, Jam Master Jay, Pimp C and Heavy D in the place of Christ and his disciples.
All we have is a clean, radio-ready version of "Industry" for the time being, so stay tuned for the explicit CDQ, and pre-order Mega Philosophy via iTunes if you wish. Otherwise, keep up with Mega and Large Pro via Twitter: @RealCormega / @LargeProfessor (why the latter isn't verified yet is beyond us).
Quotable Lyrics
Men lie, women lie, numbers can be altered
To look high, shareholders hate takin' losses
This is business, they don't care about your lyrics
The better you sell, the better future for their children
Controversy sells, so they support conflict
Makes more progress, means more profit
An artist gets killed, they say they so sorry
Meanwhile, they tell you the date of his next project
