Between this War Machine film and the Will Smith-starring Bright trailer that debuted during the Academy Awards, Netflix is really showing off how deep their pockets are. The latest trailer stars Brad Pitt as a woefully out-of-touch retired NATO commander coming out of retirement to lead troops to folly in Afghanistan. Check the teaser below, and keep in mind it’s satire.
Pitt’s character immediately resembles his portrayal of commander Aldo Raine from Inglorious Bastards, but more ineffective. Mostly because of the accent and military setting. The story is based on the late journalist Michael Hastings’ book The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan. Atlanta’s Lakeith Stanfield and Tilda Swinton (who appeared in another recent Netflix trailer) also star in the film.
Based on the limited footage here, it looks pretty funny. Will you be streaming when War Machine releases on May 26?
