Ever since Atmosphere unveiled the tracklist for their new album Southsiders, we've been extremely curious as to the track titled "Kanye West." Today we were blessed to receive the cut in full, thanks to Pigeons & Planes.
The track follows the remix of the title track "Southsiders" as well as the lead single "Bitter." "Kanye West" isn't disappointing in the least, with Ant providing a piano-driven backdrop for Slug's rhymes. Slug says of the record, “I wanted to write a song about loving something so much that you submit to the moment.” As for the album as a whole, the Minneapolis native says, “It’s a natural progression from the last record, The Family Sign, which was about growing my family. I’m starting to think, ‘What is post–family man? What am I supposed to rap about now?’ I’m sticking to my roots, rapping about what I’m doing, what I think about. This record is—much like the other ones—a very detailed look at my life.”
We encourage you to pre-order Southsiders here. The album will arrive on May 6th. Atmosphere announced a "North of Hell" tour recently, peep the dates for it here.
Quotable Lyrics
But ever since people started measuring time
We've been looking for an easy way to settle our mind
Take a load off, or take your clothes
Or shut your eyes and roll straight for the road block
She said she needed something that she could blame
And right then is when I offered my name
It's the only thing I got that will always remain
So I'ma share it with you, so can complain too
She said she wanna find a cure for death
I know she meant that in the purest sense
But when I finally die, put on your Sunday best
And throw your hands in the sky like Kanye West
