The Oakland Raiders have a one year remaining on their lease to play at O.Co Coliseum in Oakland and they've just filed for three trademarks to the name "Las Vegas Raiders." It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the Black Hole is likely headed to Sin City in the near future.
Backers of a proposed $2 billion NFL stadium in Vegas have recently narrowed down their list to two locations just West of the Vegas strip and today we have some renderings of what the new Raiders stadium could look like.
However, according to ESPN, in order to build the 65,000-seat domed stadium they'll need $750 million in public funding- a number that is apparently non negotiable.
"Not to be difficult, but we're not negotiable," said Sands president Rob Goldstein, who spoke on behalf of billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson and his family. "If we can't get 750, we respectfully thank you but we're going to move on."
Does the proposed stadium look like something that could shoot up into the sky and begin orbiting planet Earth at any minute? Yes, 100%. But that's exactly what you'd expect from an NFL stadium situated directly alongside the Las Vegas strip. The more bizarre looking the better.
