With 5,000 episodes produced and syndication spanning four decades, "Hollywood Squares" is one of the most popular TV game shows in history. Though its popularity has waned in recent years, that's all about to change. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ice Cube and VH1 are teaming up to produce a hip hop edition of the show called "Hip Hop Squares" slated to premiere this fall.
"'Hip Hop Squares' is going to be fun and spontaneous; unlike typical game shows, viewers should never know what's going to happen next," Cube told The Hollywood Reporter. "When VH1 asked us to join the producing team, we jumped aboard as we have had success with VH1, and we love their team, excitement, and commitment to the show."
Cube Vision, co-founded by Ice Cube and his business partner Matt Alvarez, will executive produce "Hip Hop Squares." It's a part of his Cube's larger plan to launch his own film studio,. He spoke on his grand plans in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter back in February: "[Hollywood] ain't cool enough yet. It's got gatekeepers everywhere. Cool people still have a hard time showing what they got in Hollywood."
