On his 2014 song "Meet the Flockers," YG presents a step-by-step guide on how to execute a home invasion. The first step: 'You find a house and scope it out/Find a Chinese neighborhood, cause they don’t believe in bank accounts.” The two-and-a-half year old lyric is now sparking outrage in the Asian-American community and has inspired hundreds who believe the song glamorizes robbery of Asians to stage protests at multiple stops of YG's current tour.
After a group of 30-50 Chinese-Americans picketed YG's show in Maryland last Wednesday, another group showed up to voice its disapproval outside his show Monday night at New York's Irving Plaza.
"We live in Flushing, Queens, and we had our house broken into twice in the last five years,” Chris Kwoak told CBS-NY.
"Shame on YG," the New York protestors chanted.
Over 110,000 individuals have signed an online petition asking the White House to "ban the song from public media and investigate legal responsibilities of the writer." The petition was posted last month after an incident in Gwinnett County, GA in which a Chinese-American woman shot at three intruders who entered her home, killing one.
