In her recent Marie Claire profile, Nicki Minaj shared a criticism of the industry, which some confused as a criticism of Kanye West.
“I’m so tired of black women feeling that when our men get rich, they’re going to leave them for a woman of a different race," she told the magazine, going on to reference Kanye's #1 single, "Gold Digger." "It wasn’t funny when Kanye said, ‘When he get on, he’ll leave your ass for a white girl’—and Kanye happens to be with a white girl now," she shared.
A few publications have spun the comments as Nicki "slamming" Kanye, but she has clarified what she meant on Twitter, responding directly to Cosmopolitan's tweet about the story. "Slams" a man/genius who gave me one of the biggest looks of my career?" she wrote. "I said he wasn't kidding, he was speaking the TRUTH about d industry."
Minaj suggested that Kanye was simply pointing out the issue. "I was saying he's the one who said it first. He doesn't apologize for his choices. He tells the truth about stuff ppl don't wanna hear!"
