South Asia is not particularly well-represented in hip hop, and the Swet Shop Boys are here to change that. On the group's debut album Cashmere, Heems, formerly one half of Das Racist, and Riz Ahmed, also known as British rapper Riz MC and the star of HBO's acclaimed drama The Night Of, join forces with British producer Redinho to shed light on the prejudice facing people of South Asian descent in Western countries. Heems is a first-generation Queens native born to Hindu-Punjabi parents from India. Riz is a first-generation Pakistani-Englishman raised in suburban London.
"Catch me out in Bombay, sipping on that Bombay, young Gordon Bombay." Read more about the Swet Shop Boys in their profile in the Atlantic, buy Cashmere on iTunes, and stream it below via Spotify.
