Nick Johnson, a 28-year old man living in Brooklyn, claims to be the first person to capture all 142 Pokemon available in the United States and he didn't drive into any police vehicles or walk off of any cliffs in the process.
"You want to catch 'em all and become a Pokémon master, [it's] the childhood dream, but it never really occurred to me I might be the first one to do it until I got pretty close," said Nick Johnson.
According to CNN, yes even CNN is reporting on all things Pokemon, Johnson says he caught 135 of the 142 Pokemon in the first week and a half of playing and made his final capture in Central Park just after midnight on July 21st.
He would typically spend anywhere from six to 10 hours hunting Pokemon, staying up as late as 4 or 5am, paying Uber drivers to drive him as far as Jersey City just to catch the elusive critters.
"I had the driver drive me around for a little bit until I found it. Luckily it didn't take me too long, so it wasn't too big of an Uber bill," he said with a laugh.
Of course, there are still some regional Pokemon characters like Mr. Mime, Farfetch'd and Kangaskhan which are located in Europe, Japan and Australia, respectively.
Luckily for him, Marriott Rewards offered to partner with him for the rest of his journey so he can truly "catch 'em all." A spokesperson for Marriott confirmed, saying, "Marriott Rewards will be helping Nick on his international journey to catch the last remaining Pokémon."
Shockingly, he also says he maintained a 50-hour work week throughout his Pokemon binge and his girl didn't leave him either.
"She was very supportive through all this," he said, adding that she is also a big Pokémon fan.
