Mike explores divide between poor whites and poor blacks.

Killer Mike was one of the most prominent political voices in hip hop during the 2016 election cycle. He supportive of Bernie Sanders and often critical of Hillary Clinton. Last night, on "The Real," he explained how "poor, angry white people" swung the election in Donald Trump's favor and explored the divide between poor whites and poor blacks:

"I think poor white people during the civil rights movement in Mississippi were the least-paid white people in the country. They were treated as badly as any black worker, but simply because the imaginary line of race got put there, they could still say "I'm superior to this person." They never joined the black workers and fought for superior conditions for them all.

"I think poor white people are mad because the system that promises you something based on that isn’t going to ever give you that… They work for a party and have voted for a party that used the illusion of patriotism, that used the illusion of military, that used the illusion of being better by skin color and class to oppress them.

"People who look like all the people on this panel -- black, brown, and all types of hues in between -- I think that we have been used by a party to the liberal side that once enacted, and once in office, has not enacted policy that was reflective of stuff that would bring our communities up, so I think poor people got angry, and I think that there just happen to be, by this country, more poor angry white people."
