Drake's "Summer Sixteen" shows continue to be full of surprises. He hit Detroit on Tues. night (Aug. 16) and ended the HOT 97-instigated rumor of a simmering beef with Eminem by bringing out the legendary Caucasian in his hometown. And it seems like the after-party was equally exciting for those lucky enough to get the invite. In a couple of short clips taken at the party, one can hear two new Drake songs, perhaps off the upcoming mixtape that he announced during a S'16 show in Kansas City last month.
Drake also has an upcoming joint project with Gucci Mane, perhaps entitled The 6'ers. ATL producer Zaytoven recently revealed that two 6'ers songs had already been completed, but the music heard in the clips from the Detroit after-party doesn't sound suited to the joint release. Instead, the snippets are examples of the slow-whining island-inspired R&B wave that Drizzy's been riding with smash hits like "One Dance," "Controlla," and "Too Good."
The first 10-second clip is especially Caribbean-tinged.
The second, which has been the source of even more speculation, boasts some poppy vocals from Drake -- initially unfamiliar, though natural considering the progression showcased on VIEWS. It'd be smart to drop this one while there's still some warmth in the air, though it'll be an easy hit regardless. You can spot Drake at the tail end of the clip.
Some KTT users noted that Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr., a close friend of Drizzy's, has already heard the above song in its entirety, as he tagged Drake in an IG post and wrote some lyrics -- "Fake people showing fake love to me straight up to my face" -- that would go along seamlessly with what can be heard in the brief snippet.
If you've been tired of hearing VIEWS all summer, well you might as well turn off the radio for the rest of the year, 'cuz the boy ain't stoppin'.
