Reading about the tragic death of Sandra Bland and the uproar of protesting that followed can be a difficult task - good news is hardly ever reported. Well today, there is a small victory for the family of Sandra Bland - a combined $1.9 Million in settlement money from the the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Waller County jail.
In addition to the money rewarded, the court has agreed to push for legislation to improve prison conditions and prevent future tragedies, including a mandatory on-duty medical staff and increased accountability regarding prison intakes and screenings. All improvements will be named after Sandra Bland in her memory. It is yet to be seen if state trooper Brian Encinia will be convicted for a crime in the case. If you can handle watching it, we've embedded the original video of Bland and Encinia's confrontation below.
