Mick Jenkins released his debut album The Healing Component in September. It was pretty great. Now he's on tour. During a recent stop in New York, he swung by "Sway in the Morning" to spit a freestyle for the host of the program, Sway Calloway.
Given the lyrical depth of The Healing Component, it should come as no surprise that Jenkins's freestyle was stellar. "Learning if I put in layman's terms, you worms," he raps, "Couldn't fuck with an early bird at your best / Young Lazarus on the rise, I'm laying it down to rest." The freestyle was so good, that Sway halted the fake applause, saying applause would be a disservice. "I want people to think about that shit for a second," he said.
