Rising Atlanta trapper Jeff Chery, aka the Haitian Mufasa, is having a breakout year. One could say he's part of the melodic wave that's all the rage in the trap game, though there's a world of real-life struggle behind his bassy auto-tuned flows. Some of his best work this year has come with the Floridian production duo known as HamSquad. They produced "Juice & Soda," the biggest hit off Chery's July tape, Mufasa's Way, and Chery has enlisted them for all eight tracks on the new joint EP, Vega. "Juice & Soda" is also included on the EP, as are the recent tracks "Money on the Mattress" and "What You Doin?", the latter which has now received a new video, released in coordination with the new EP.
"What You Doin?" is arguably the definitive club banger of the bunch, as Chery quickly drops a knockout hook and then rides off pure adrenaline for his verses, never slipping up on his melodies. For this one, HamSquad's lush synth textures are extra quick and their drums extra hard, with plenty of their signature elephant sirens along the way. The video finds Chery turning up in an empty lot at the edge of the city and then in the studio, where he receives an up-close lapdance from a real bad one whose rear is covered in pawprints.
Vega contains a few more club essentials as well as more reflective tracks and focused storytelling. Stream it below.
