Many hip-hop stars were gathered in White Sox stadium in Chicago for Chance the Rapper's first-ever Magical Coloring Day. The one-day festival included performances from Chance, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, Young Thug, and a surprise set from Kanye West. The Global Citizen Festival, another stacked one-day concert -- this one an initiative to end extreme global povery, curated by Coldplay's Chris Martin -- also took place yesterday, in NYC's Central Park. Kendrick Lamar was the only rapper on a bill that featured Rihanna, Demi Lovato, Metallica, Usher, and Major Lazer, but he delivered one of the day's best shows during his headlining slot.
After being introduced by a pregnant Olivia Wilde, Kendrick made a dramatic entrance to the tune of "Levitate" (or "untitled 07"), a single taken off his March album untitled unmastered. The rest of his nearly hour-long set was filled with an array of hits from good kid m.A.A.d city and To Pimp a Butterfly, including "Backseat Freestyle," "Swimming Pools," "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe," "King Kunta," "Alright," and more.
