Shannon Sharpe Passionately Defends Colin Kaepernick's Protest

The debut of Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe featured a debate over Colin Kaepernick's decision to take a knee during the national anthem in protest of the prevailing issue of black men killed at the hand of police officers in the country. Sharpe delivered an inspired argument for Kaepernick's cause. “They were like ‘He’s no Dr. King. He’s no Muhammad Ali.’ But you’re talking about in the context of how they’re viewed now. Everybody didn’t like Dr. King in the sixties. They definitely didn’t like Cassius Clay,” he said early in the conversation, before going through the history of oppression African Americans have been subjected to throughout American history. He urges that people engage with the player's peaceful protest, and most importantly, believe that his cause is very real.
