Hot off his Mufasa's Way mixtape, released in July, and with another tape on the way, Jeff Chery has decided to drop off a new song and video, entitled "Cross the Line." With this year's output, Chery has solidified himself as a melodic rapper from ATL who brings something new to the scene, exercising a cold-hearted flow, trying to find a balance between pain and inspiration. "Cross the Line" is especially drenched in true-to-life anguish, as he ponders the whole idea of friendship, with his mind focused on one particular incident of betrayal.
"Sometimes you may want the best for a person, but their values aren't the same," Chery tells us. "They end up double-crossing you or throwing you under the bus to save their own skin. This is exactly what happened; someone I considered loyal got caught up in a situation and gave me up. Taking food out my kids mouth is something I won't ever look past. This song was recorded the same day everything went down."
The video switches between shots of Chery's native Léogâne, in Haiti, and his new dwelling in Atlanta, where he's been forced to learn how to operate on his own.
"Cross the Line" is produced by SM Tracks, who worked on four tracks on Mufasa's Way, which you can download here.
