Ever since dropping his featureless (now-platinum) album 2014 Forest Hills Drive, J. Cole has been all about that tour life, performing sold-out shows across the country and the world. It's part of what made him the highest-grossing hip-hop artist of 2015. But that doesn't mean his creativity has been laying idle; in fact, it seems that Cole has spent countless hours in his tourbus studio exploring new ideas. In a new video shared by the Cole World fansite, Cole starts plunking away at his keyboard attachment, and before long, he comes out with a smooth beat that would perfectly suit his flow.
A few minutes into the video, Cole ventures to the back of the bus and yells out, "Can somebody go and grab Ron for me?" Dreamville producer Ron Gilmore soon enters the studio and lays down a more intricate piano melody, and though we don't get to hear a finished recording of the instrumental, the sounds that the two of them whipped up on the spot are sensational.
In addition to being one of the game's premier emcees, Cole has also had a storied career as a beatmaker, producing much of his own work as well as lending original productions to artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, and Pusha T.
