Would you fight boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. for a chance to win $100,000?
Vyron Phillips would. And did. The 33-year-old amateur MMA fighter with no prior boxing experience was selected from a pool of 1,500 Facebook contestants to duke it out in the ring against Jones Jr.
If Phillips survived the fight, he would win $100,000. He was 6-3 before Phillips v. Jones Jr... he is now 6-4. To say he took an L would be an understatement.
To his credit, Phillips survived the first round. In the second round he made a critical error -- a lunging right jab left him gravely exposed and Jones Jr quickly dispatched him with a right hook to the dome.
A valiant effort from Phillips, but unfortunately no 100 grand. After the fight he said that he hopes Jones Jr. retires soon. "I’d like to see Roy go away from this. Maybe coach. I don’t want to see him get hurt.”
Said Jones Jr.: "I wouldn’t challenge Michael Jordan in 1-1 for $100K. That guy has an amazing heart to just try the feat. He went out and challenged the best. That’s a lot of heart."
