Noisey is currently rolling out a six-part documentary on gang life in Compton, CA. Kendrick Lamar is featured in each episode.
Episode 4, entitled "Violence Touches All Of Us," explores the intersection of religion and gang culture. Noisey interviewed Pastor Michael Fisher of Greater Zion Family Church about the role of gangster rap in the community and crime trends in Compton. "I know a lot of people are saying that it's getting better, but I'm the one that's doing the funerals," he said.
The second half of the segment is centered around G. Weed, a Piru crip and friend of Kendrick who grew in Campanella Park. G. Weed says he never left his house without a gun for 20 years and, like Pastor Fisher, gave a pessimistic view on safety in his neighborhood. "Can't nobody make this place safe."
